We train your dog using force free methods and solutions that are effective, useful, and provide your dog the skills necessary to be a successful member of your household. This results in a well behaved and happy dog! Develop a well-mannered dog: using effective, positive training methods to establish communication, and eliminate unwanted behaviors. Create consistent proper behavior from your dog: understanding training is about communication between people and their dogs; thereby making “training” a way of life. Accomplish client’s goals: listen, acknowledge, and create a living environment that is peaceful, loving, and happy for all family members. Enhance relationships with clients and their dogs: we are constantly continuing our education – there is always more to learn via books, webinars, conferences, and seminars on the newest research and training improvements. Real life experience: a constant teacher, life brings many exciting challenges in each dog trained. Learning from our own dogs and client’s dogs alike, techniques and approaches used need to be fine-tuned, adjusted, and improved to ensure long-term success. We offer: group classes for puppies and adult dogs, private training, and behavior modification, specializing in dog/dog reactivity.

As a CPDT-KA, Truly Dog Friendly Member and proud member of the Pet Professional Guild I subscribe to the code set forth by the Pet Professional Guild ( http://petprofessionalguild.com/ ) which is the understanding that force-free means no shock, no pain, no choke, no fear and no physical force. No compulsion based methods are employed to train your pet.I exclusively work with families and pets in the owner's home. I do not discount the attendance at training centers, however I do find that when problem solving is needed it is much easier for a client to transfer learning while working in the setting where they live vs. get instruction from the outside and have to figure out how that advice fits the physical situation in the home. For some dogs group training can be stressful and they are more successful learning in the comfort of a familiarity of home.

Longsnouts does dog training a little differently! How? We focus on building a strong, engaged, FUN relationship with our dogs, so that manners can be (more) naturally folded in. Relationships are dialogues, with clarity being a key component. We offer class, one-on-one, and in-home opportunities. Classes include a variety of manners-based (polite walking, recalls, basic manners, Urban Manners, Moments of Pause, etc.) and sniffy options (Barn Hunt, Nosework, Shed Hunt, Farm Walks, and more). We can even take your dogs for Adventure Outings, as well as help with a wide variety of in-home behaviors.Be in touch to see how Longsnouts can best help!

Frequently asked questions about dog training

How much does dog training cost?

Dog training costs vary by type and location. Group classes typically run $50–$200 for a multi-week session. Private sessions range from $50–$150 per hour. Board and train programs can cost $500–$2,500+ per week depending on the trainer and length of program.

What dog training methods are most effective?

Positive reinforcement is widely considered the most effective and humane dog training method. It rewards desired behaviors rather than punishing unwanted ones. Look for trainers certified by organizations like CCPDT, IAABC, or Karen Pryor Academy.

How long does dog training take?

Basic obedience typically takes 4–8 weeks of consistent training. Behavior modification for issues like aggression or separation anxiety may take 3–6 months. Every dog learns at their own pace — consistency and practice between sessions are key.

What certifications should a dog trainer have?

Look for trainers certified by CCPDT (Certified Professional Dog Trainer), IAABC (International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants), or the Karen Pryor Academy. These certifications require demonstrated knowledge and adherence to humane training standards.
