My core belief is that training should always be fun, for both the human and the dog!I began my journey as a professional dog trainer after I realized the dog that I had adopted had severe anxiety and aggression towards other dogs and humans. After working with a positive reinforcement trainer, I was inspired by the change I saw in my dog's life to become a professional trainer myself, with a particular interest in aggression and anxiety. I believe in using only science-supported positive reinforcement techniques, especially in cases with aggression, when aversive techniques may only suppress behavior rather than addressing the underlying cause. Since I began training professionally, I have worked with service dogs, aggression cases, and basic obedience, as well as trick training. In addition to the CPDT-KA certification, I am also an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator. If you are struggling with your dog's behavior, I would love to schedule a consult!

Begin on the right path to a well-behaved dog by planning and setting rules early. Every interaction with your puppy can be a learning experience for you both. Learn appropriate ways to reward and eliminate behaviors. Socialize in a safe environment. Play games and have fun while teaching your pup manners.Group Classes: Our classes provide your family with dog training that works - through every stage of your dog's life as they grow up in your home. We've been training dogs in the Dayton area since 2001. This is not your typical dog obedience class! We use clicker training to dramatically speed up the learning process and offer a clear way to communicate with your dog. Not sure you want to use the clicker? Don't worry, you can still get great results at our classes. Families and children welcome! In Home Training: Learn to communicate with your pup in the privacy of your own home. Perfect for owners that can not commit to a 6 week class. We offer flexible scheduling to maximize your success.Day Training: Let us do all the training for you while you are at work or school. We will come train your pup 4 sessions during the week and follow up with you for the 5th session. The most efficient way to get the training you need for your pup.

With over 25 years of dog training experience, I am able to offer all levels of training including puppy and adult problem solving, housebreaking and manners as well as aggressive behavior modification.I started out in the competition world. I have titles in Obedience, Agility and Herding. This fueled my desire to learn more about behavior. It tortured my heart to see how competition dogs were treated. This led me to the positive reinforcement world.I have certifications through Karen Pryor Academy and Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers. Both organizations require a code of ethics and testing of your knowledge and training skills. I have stayed current on the latest science based training techniques and research by attaining 100's hours of continuing education.I pride myself on using the most current, scientific methods of training in resolving issues. This truly builds trust on both ends of the leash. My joy comes from watching your bond grow with your pup as we work toward your goal.I offer virtual and in-home training. I do not currently teach group classes.I have owned and trained Rottweilers for over 30 years.

Frequently asked questions about dog training
How much does dog training cost?
Dog training costs vary by type and location. Group classes typically run $50–$200 for a multi-week session. Private sessions range from $50–$150 per hour. Board and train programs can cost $500–$2,500+ per week depending on the trainer and length of program.
What dog training methods are most effective?
Positive reinforcement is widely considered the most effective and humane dog training method. It rewards desired behaviors rather than punishing unwanted ones. Look for trainers certified by organizations like CCPDT, IAABC, or Karen Pryor Academy.
How long does dog training take?
Basic obedience typically takes 4–8 weeks of consistent training. Behavior modification for issues like aggression or separation anxiety may take 3–6 months. Every dog learns at their own pace — consistency and practice between sessions are key.
What certifications should a dog trainer have?
Look for trainers certified by CCPDT (Certified Professional Dog Trainer), IAABC (International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants), or the Karen Pryor Academy. These certifications require demonstrated knowledge and adherence to humane training standards.
